The Cape Fear Foundation, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) arts organization, was established in downtown Wilmington in 1981. "The Foundation" originally operated out of the alternative art space and gallery at 9 South Front Street.

Past projects include: "Greetings From..." the international mail art show, "Six Poets Reading" publication and performance series, "Artifacts from the End of A Decade" installation and artists book, "Noisy Alley" site specific performance art and installation, "Nuclear House, Nuclear Family" performance art and installation, "The Coroner's Report" collaborative artists book and installation, and many individual exhibitions and performances.
