Guy was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania and lived there until the age of seven when his family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. He arrived in Wilmington in 1976, attending UNCW where he majored in Environmental and Earth Science. His time at UNCW afforded him the chance to serve as both staff and later head photographer for the campus newspaper, as well as variety of local publications. While walking the beaches of Masonboro Island one day he made the decision to make Wilmington his home.

He discovered his love of photography in his teens, combining it with his time spent camping, rock climbing and rafting. His experience includes a background in photojournalism, sports photography and nature photography. In addition to freelance photography, he is a goldsmith and jewelry designer with over twenty-eight years in the field. His other creative outlets include writing, painting and travel with his family.
